Germany - Research Funding

Germany has numerous support programs for the first steps of promising scientific careers. These programs are made available to foreign students as well as graduates and postgraduates. The evaluation criteria vary from program to program. Generally, candidates are selected by multi-step processes or interviews.

The diversity of funding options is unequalled. The research funding is done by federal and state agencies, foundations, organizations that promote young talent and businesses. The main funding institutions are: the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the German Research Foundation (DFG).
